***NEW 40KMH SPEED LIMITS IN NEWINGTON FROM 7TH SEPTEMBER 2012 New 40kmh Speed Limit in NewingtonAuburn Council, in association with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) are implementing a 40 km/h Local Traffic Area in the residential streets of Newington to provide a safer road environment. The Local Traffic Area will incorporate all roads branching out from Newington Boulevard, with the exception of Avenue of Oceania and John Ian Wing Parade (crossing to Hill Road, Sydney Olympic Park). The 40 km/h speed limit acknowledges the narrow road widths, closely spaced driveways, and the increasing number of pedestrians and cyclists in the area. The signs are expected to be installed on Friday, 7 September 2012. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be provided approximately a week before the speed limit is changed.
