Australia Day celebrations at Olympic Park On Saturday 26 January 2013, Auburn City Council and Sydney Olympic Park Authority will once again present a fantastic event to celebrate Australia Day.The event will start at 2pm and showcase a huge variety of performances, entertainment, workshops and activities through until 9pm, where the event will finish up with a spectacular fireworks finale. It will consist of some typical Australiana entertainment with ‘Tuckitinya’ performing traditional bush ballads, the ‘Australian Heritage Dancers’ taking us back to Colonial times, and ‘Stringybark’ covering some Aussie classics. There will also be sheep shearing, sheep dog and whip cracking demonstrations. The day will start with an Aboriginal dance ceremony acknowledging the original custodians of this land, and continue on with some culturally diverse music and dance performances throughout the day from ‘Bollywood Sensations’, ‘Rhythms of Polynesia’ and ‘Chosani Afrique’. An Official Ceremony will also take place at 6pm where our Australia Day Ambassador, Paralympian - Swimming Gold medallist Michael Auprince will address the audience and present the winners of the Local Citizen of the Year Awards. Performances from the ‘Whiz Kids’ and ‘Leo Bonne Circus Show’, as well as FREE amusement rides, pony rides, face painting, craft workshops and roving performers will make it a fun-filled day for the kids. Families can bring a picnic or try some out the food stalls and enjoy a great day in the beautiful surrounds of Bicentennial Park at Sydney Olympic Park. Bicentennial Park is also celebrating its twenty-fifth birthday this year so we’ll be looking for festival goers to join in and make a human ‘25’ formation, to be photographed from a helicopter at 4pm. So make sure you are there to join in and be part of history! All participants will receive a FREE cap as a momento of the special occasion. A free shuttle bus will also operate from Auburn, Lidcombe and Sydney Olympic Park train stations taking people straight to the event.
