Family Fun Day - Best Yet

2010 Newington Family Fun Day - Best Yet

The recent Newington Family Fun Day has been hailed the best yet by organisers after more than a thousand locals flocked to the event.

Pierre de Coubertin Park  was the scene of a day of free entertainment, activities and rides organised by the Newington Neighbourhood Association.

"It was a fabulous day," said NNA President David Coop who headed the organising committee for this year's event. "We started off with three hours of free rides and activities and wrapped up the day with a two hour concert featuring FABBA who had everyone up and dancing with their great renditions of ABBA's classic hits."

The Fun Day was a community effort sponsored by Dooleys at Silverwater, Newington Marketplace, Newington Tyres and More, Dynamic Property Services, Newington Real Estate and the Crown International Group.

"A committed group of volunteers put the day together with wonderful support from Sydney Olympic Park, Birds Australia,  the Newington Public School P&C and the SES who all pitched in to make the day a success.

"The face painters were kept busy creating some magical art masterpieces and the ladies from the St George Zoo Mobile were very popular with youngsters who wanted to meet the lizards, snakes and a very social stick insect."

The circus skills workshop was a hit with the kids who put their hula hoop expertise on show and learned how to walk on stilts.

"With all the activities on offer everyone worked up an appetite and the Newington Gunners Football Club sausage sizzle did a roaring trade," said Mr Coop. "They had to bring in more sausages because of the demand.

"It was a fabulous day for all the family and we'd like to thank everyone who helped make it such a success."
